Your Voice Number, Explained
Dinevate Voice AI answers calls on a dedicated phone number — your Voice number. When someone dials it, your AI assistant picks up.
There are two ways to get one, and both are managed from the same page:
- Get a new number — We find you a fresh local number. Fastest way to go live; you then point customers at the new number.
- Port your existing number — We transfer the restaurant phone number you already have over to Dinevate Voice. Your customers keep dialing the same number they always have — it's just answered by your AI now.
Your active Voice number is shown in several places: the banner on your Voice Home page, the Settings hub, the green "Your Active Voice Number" card on the Phone Numbers page, and on your Order Manager tablet as "AI line".
Nice touch: Once Voice is on, the phone number displayed on your Dinevate website automatically becomes your Voice number — no editing needed.
Where to Manage Phone Numbers
- Go to dinevate.com and log in with your owner account.
- Open your Merchant Dashboard.
- In the sidebar, click "Dinevate Voice AI" → "Settings".
- On the "Phone Numbers" card, click "Configure".
The page has two tabs: "Get New Number" and "Port Existing Number".
Note: A restaurant can have at most 2 phone numbers. If you own a number that isn't active, it appears under "Other number(s) you own" with an "Activate" button — activating it switches your Voice line to that number.
Option 1 — Get a New Number
The quickest path. On the "Get New Number" tab:
- In the search box, type your area code (like
310) or part of a number you'd like. - Click "Search" and browse the Available Numbers list.
- Pick the one you like and click "Purchase Number".
That's it — you'll see "Your Dinevate Voice AI number is now active", and the AI starts answering that number immediately.
Since this is a brand-new number, make sure customers can find it:
- Update the phone number on your Google Business Profile — that's where most callers get your number.
- Update Yelp, delivery apps, printed menus, and flyers when you get the chance.
- Or keep your old number ringing to the AI: ask your current phone company to set up call forwarding from your old restaurant number to your new Voice number. Customers dial the old number, the AI answers. (Most phone companies can turn this on in minutes.)
Option 2 — Port Your Existing Number
Porting means officially transferring your current restaurant number away from your old phone company and onto Dinevate Voice. Your customers notice nothing — same number, now answered by your AI on the first ring.
What You'll Need
Before starting, grab a recent phone bill for the number. The port is approved by your current phone company, and the details you enter must match your bill exactly:
- A recent bill (or utility bill) that lists the phone number
- Your account number with your current phone company
- The account holder's name and billing address, exactly as they appear on the bill
- Your account PIN or password, if your phone company uses one
Check, Then Submit
- On the "Port Existing Number" tab, enter your number under "Check if Your Number is Portable" and click "Check". Most business numbers are portable.
- Click "Start Port Request" and fill in the form: the number to port, your current account number, account holder name, the billing address from your bill, the authorized person's name and email, your PIN if you have one, and an upload of your bill (PDF or photo).
- Click "Submit Port Request". Done — we take it from there.
What Happens Next
- Dinevate checks eligibility — automatic.
- Authorization form sent — watch the email inbox you listed for a signature request; signing it quickly keeps things moving.
- Number transferred — usually 7–10 business days, sometimes faster. The speed mostly depends on your old phone company.
- Voice goes live — the moment the transfer completes, your AI starts answering your number.
You can follow along on the Phone Numbers page — the status card updates on its own, or click "Refresh Status" anytime. If the status says "Action required", check your email; your old phone company usually needs one more detail.
Important: Don't cancel your existing phone service until the port shows Completed. Cancelling early can make your number unavailable and stop the port. Once it's complete, you can close the old account.
Changing or Fixing Your Number
- Change your active number: On the Phone Numbers page, click "Change" on the "Your Active Voice Number" card. Heads up — the page will warn you that customers calling your old number will no longer reach you, so only do this if you're sure.
- Common porting hiccups: Almost every port delay comes down to a mismatch — a name spelled differently than the bill, an old billing address, or a missing PIN. Double-check the bill before submitting, and you'll sail through.

Which Option Should I Pick?
- You've been around for years and everyone knows your number → Port it. Your regulars, Google listing, menus, and fridge magnets all keep working.
- You're a new restaurant, or your current number is tangled up in an old contract → Get a new number and update your Google Business Profile the same day.
- You want to go live today but port eventually → Get a new number now, forward your old line to it with your phone company, and start the port whenever you're ready.
